Barbara Luisi

Barbara Luisi eclectic gaze wanders avidly and delicately, scrutinising every aspect of reality with penetrating curiosity.

Born in Munich in 1964 and after several years in New York, she now lives and works in Vienna and Venice. Being both a violinist and a visual artist she presents in her photographic works a unique and emotional look at nature and the human body, as beauty becomes the leitmotif of a journey where photography, nature, the body and the night are combined. Music often plays a key role in her installations.

The AKT-Eternal Beauty project has been exhibited in many European cities, including Venice, New York and Tokyo. Dreamland, a work reflecting on night light, was exhibited at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris and at the PHOTOMED Festival in Beirut and Paris.
On October 3rd, under the title “La Rose et l’Olivier”, her 12 meter long Installation “a bed of roses” amidst a huge number of large format silk prints in the medieval abbey La Celle museum, France concluded successfully after 6 months exhibition.

Luisi's night shots, taken on the shores of locations on different continents around the world, speak to us of a specific, strongly cosmopolitan background. Barbara Luisi is a nomad in desperate search of beauty. Her eclectic gaze wanders avidly and delicately, scrutinising every aspect of reality with penetrating curiosity. A new Venetian from afar with her inseparable violin, after having lived for a long time in New York, Japan and Austria, Barbara has chosen Venice as her home. Venice is increasingly an international city, an ideal place for citizens of the world.
